is the 33-year-old former lapd officer who has threatened, quote/unquote, unconventional and asymmetrical warfare on his former colleagues. he's also a former navy reserve lieutenant, and is accused of firing on four officers today, one is dead. dorner is also wanted in connection with a double homicide in irvine, where the daughter of a retired police department captain, monica quan, and her fiance, keith lawrence, were killed in the parking lot of their apartment. dorner is suspected of being on the run since sunday, and police warn he is armed and dangerous. and according to a chilling manifesto he posted online, dorner's shooting spree targeted officers and hair families and it isn't over yet. antonio villaraigosa is urging everyone to be alert as it isn't over yet. kyung lah is on the scene of the first shoot this morning. what can you tell us about this breaking news we have that they've been able to identify this burnt vehicle as dorner's vehicle? >> reporter: well, just about 90 minutes ago, we did get a report that a car was on fire, that police had found this burned out shell of

step closer to locating. christopher jordan dorner, an ex-navy officer with a grudge against the lapd. breaking news tonight, police have located his burned out truck near big bear lake. that's about 100 miles east of los angeles. that's the truck there, burned out. they have not, however, located dorner. just moments ago, we learned that the fbi went to the suspect's home in las vegas. we do not know, however, what, if anything, they discovered there. meantime, back at big bear lake, the l.a. times is reporting that fresh tracks were found nearby. check points are up on local roads and the faa has barred all local news choppers from the air space overhead. as for the suspect himself, authorities say that christopher dorner is not only armed, not only dangerous and vowing revenge on his former lapd officers but also people close to them. in a strange and chilling online manifesto allegedly written by dorner, he says, and i quote, i never had an opportunity to have a family of mine own, i'm terminating yours. as for his capabilities, a local police officer had this to say, quote, of co

dorner killed two people, monica quan, the daughter of a former lapd captain and her fiance. three days later in san diego, police say dorner attempted to hijack a boat. then he fired at police officers in corona, who were assigned to protect someone connected to dorner's threats. one officer was hurt. later in riverside, two officers are fired upon in what police call a cowardly ambush. one seriously hurt, the other killed. dorner's manifesto states, the attacks will stop when the department states the truth about my innocence publicly. >> he's told us what he intends to do, and so far he's done it. >> reporter: leaving the community on edge, wondering when the violence will stop. several police departments have ordered their officers to travel in pairs in their patrol cars until dorner is found. zoraida. >> such a scary situation. also for the residents out there. they're on a virtual lockdown, aren't they? >> reporter: that's right. police are conducting a door-to-door search overnight throughout the community of big bear lakes, trying to find dorner. so far, no luck. they have order

the lapd headquarters with what we have learned overnight. >> christopher dorner is a cop with a vendetta. he is well armed, well trained. few believe he will be taken alive. this is l.a. headquarters, it is very well guarded. there are snipers on the road because every officer inside are a potential target. his car was found at east bear, about an hour north of los angeles. overnight cops scoured the mountains going door to door, car to car looking for him and yet no sign of the suspect. >> they still have airline searches, ground searches and door-to-door searches going on. a lot of assistance from all of our neighboring counties and our police department. canine units here. and so far we have not located him. >> to understand who dorner is and what set him off, consider this sequence of events. one week ago today he was discharged from the naval reserve after being passed over twice for promotion. two days later he sat and killed monica kwan and her fiancee. she is the laureate of an ex--lapd guy. tuesday he checked into a hotel in san diego. wednesday he tried to steal a boat but the

in three western states and mexico are still searching for a former lapd officer who was accused of killing three people and threatening dozens more. let's get an update tonight from lapd headquarters and correspondent alicia acuna. >> reporter: because of the heavy snow in the mountains, the air search with the heat seeking equipment they've been using has been grounded. however, officials do say snow on the ground does help them track folks. >> our folks are highly trained. that's what h we train for. >> reporter: the manhunt for christopher dorner carries on despite the snow. >> we're going to continue searching until either we discover that he left the mountain or we find him, one of the two. >> reporter: the last signs of the fired lapd officer were the tracks leading away from his burning truck found on thursday. >> we have no evidence at this point. >> reporter: the search isn't isolated to the big bear area. it stretches across california, arizona, nevada, and northern mexico. it includes the home of dorner's mother near irvine, california where police executed a search warrant. dor

, there have been two separate shootings this morning. one in corona, california. and this involves an lapd officer. and then the other shooting here in riverside, about 1:30 this morning, when two riverside police officers on what they termed to be patrol, were ambushed by the suspect who has military training or boasts of it in that manifesto. let me see if i can tell you what he said in the manifesto about all of this. he said, quote, "you are aware that i have always been the top shot, highest scorer and expert in rifle qualifications in every unit. i will utilize every bit of small arms training, demolition, ordinance and survival training." in this manifesto, he specifically names and warns a lot of lapd officers. he is a former lapd officer. and at the end of the manifesto, sort of a bone chilling warning, i have the strength and benefits of being unpredictable, unconventional and unforgiving, do not waste your time with briefs and table tops. the man they are looking for is conspicuous, he is 6'0", 270 founds. that is dorner. as we link these together, this is three separate inciden
